What is an Employment Tribunal?

An Employment Tribunal is a specialist court that deals with disputes between employees and employers. It is less formal than a civil court, but its judgments are legally binding. It is the forum for resolving a wide range of workplace issues when they cannot be solved internally.

Our expert solicitors represent both employees bringing claims and employers defending them, providing robust, strategic advice tailored to your specific case.

CRITICAL: The Employment Tribunal Time Limit

There are very strict and short time limits for making a tribunal claim. In most cases, you must start the process by contacting ACAS for 'Early Conciliation' within **three months less one day** from the date of the incident (e.g., the date your employment ended).

If you miss this deadline, you will lose your right to bring a claim. It is absolutely essential to seek legal advice from a solicitor as soon as possible.

How We Prepare Your Employment Tribunal Application

Submitting a claim requires a detailed and robust application. Our solicitors manage the entire process to build the strongest possible case for you.

1. Case Assessment

We conduct a thorough consultation to assess the merits of your case and advise you on the potential outcomes and value of your claim.

2. ACAS Early Conciliation

We manage the mandatory ACAS Early Conciliation process for you, which is the first step before a claim can be submitted to the tribunal.

3. Claim Submission (ET1)

We professionally draft and submit your formal ET1 claim form to the Employment Tribunal, setting out the full details of your case.

Your Questions About Employment Tribunals

What kind of claims does an Employment Tribunal handle?

Employment Tribunals handle a wide range of disputes that cannot be resolved internally. This includes claims for unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, all forms of discrimination (based on sex, race, disability etc.), disputes over pay and holiday entitlement, and breaches of contract.

What is ACAS Early Conciliation?

Before you can submit a claim to the Tribunal, you are legally required to contact ACAS (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) to begin 'Early Conciliation'. This is a free service where a conciliator will try to help you and your employer reach a settlement. We can manage this entire process on your behalf as your legal representatives.

How much does an Employment Tribunal solicitor cost?

We understand that legal costs are a significant concern. We provide a clear estimate of costs from the beginning and explore all funding options with you. Unlike personal injury, "no win no fee" is less common in employment law, but we offer fixed fees for certain stages of work to provide cost certainty where possible.
