What is the Difference?

While often requested together, these are distinct legal formalities. Our solicitors are authorised to administer both.

Swearing an Oath or Affidavit

An oath or affidavit is a sworn statement of fact made by a person (the 'deponent'). It is a formal document primarily used in **court proceedings**. By 'swearing' the oath before a solicitor, you are formally testifying that the contents are true.

Statutory Declarations

A statutory declaration is also a statement of fact, but it is not typically for court use. It is used in a wide variety of official and commercial situations to formally declare something to be true, such as confirming your identity, solvency, or marital status for a government body or financial institution.

Our Simple 3-Step Process

1. Book Your Appointment

Use our form to request a callback. Our team will contact you to arrange a convenient time for you to visit our office.

2. Bring Your Documents

You must bring the completed, but **unsigned**, document, along with any exhibits and your original photo ID (passport or driving licence).

3. Sign & Certify

In a short appointment (usually 15-20 minutes), you will sign the document in the presence of our solicitor, who will then complete the formal certification.

Your Questions Answered

How much does it cost?

This is a fixed-fee service. For Statutory Declarations, we charge a competitive fixed fee which we will confirm with you when you book your appointment.

What do I need to bring with me?

You must bring the completed but **unsigned** document(s), any associated documents or exhibits, and your original photo ID (e.g., a valid passport or driving licence) so we can verify your identity.

Can you give me legal advice on the document?

No. Our role when swearing an oath or statutory declaration is strictly to act as an official witness and certify that you have signed it. We cannot provide legal advice on the contents of the document itself as part of this service. If you need advice, this would be a separate instruction.
