What is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic abuse is not just physical violence. The law recognises a wide range of behaviours as abusive, including emotional, psychological, financial, and sexual abuse, as well as coercive and controlling behaviour. If you are being made to feel scared, isolated, or controlled, you may be a victim of domestic abuse, and we can help.

How Our Solicitors Can Protect You

We can apply to the Family Court for powerful injunctions to ensure your immediate and long-term safety.

Non-Molestation Orders

This is a powerful court order that prohibits your abuser from using threatening behaviour, harassment, intimidation, or any form of abuse against you. Breaching this order is a criminal offence.

Get Protection from Harm

Occupation Orders

This order regulates who can live in the family home. It can be used to exclude an abuser from the property and the surrounding area, allowing you and your children to remain in your home safely.

Secure Your Home

Emergency Court Action

In high-risk situations, we can make an urgent application to the court to get you protection within 24-48 hours, without your abuser needing to be present at the first hearing.

Questions About Domestic Violence Legal Action

What is the first thing I should do if I am in danger?

If you or your children are in immediate danger, your first action should always be to call the police on 999. Once you are safe, you should then seek urgent legal advice from a specialist solicitor about a protective court order.

What is the difference between a Non-Molestation and an Occupation Order?

A Non-Molestation Order prohibits a person from doing certain things (e.g., harassing or contacting you). An Occupation Order determines who can live in a property. They are often applied for together to provide complete protection.

Can I get Legal Aid to help with my costs?

Legal Aid is still available for victims of domestic abuse who need a protective court order, provided you can supply specific evidence of the abuse and meet the financial eligibility criteria. We can assess your eligibility for Legal Aid during our initial consultation.
