What is an ID1 or ID2 Form?

An ID1 Form (for an individual) or ID2 Form (for a corporate body) is a legal document required by **HM Land Registry** to verify a person's identity. It is a crucial anti-fraud measure to protect property owners.

  • When is it needed? You typically need an ID1 form when you are a party in a property transaction but are not represented by a solicitor or conveyancer (for example, in a private sale or transfer of equity).
  • Who can sign it? The form must be completed and signed by a solicitor or other specified professional who can verify your identity in person.
  • Why use a solicitor? Using an SRA-regulated solicitor ensures the form is completed correctly and will be accepted by the Land Registry, preventing costly delays to your transaction.
