We Advise on All Forms of Workplace Discrimination

The Equality Act 2010 protects you from being treated unfairly because of certain 'protected characteristics'. Our expertise covers claims relating to all of these, including:

Age
Sex
Pregnancy & Maternity
Religion or Belief
Sexual Orientation
Marriage & Civil Partnership

The law is complex and covers many situations. If you feel you've been treated unfairly but don't see your exact issue listed, please contact us. Your experience may still be unlawful.

Workplace Discrimination FAQs

What evidence do I need to prove discrimination?

Evidence can be direct (e.g., offensive emails or messages) or circumstantial. Often, a tribunal will look at patterns of behaviour, how others were treated in similar situations, and whether the employer's explanation for their actions is believable. Keeping a detailed diary of incidents is extremely helpful. We can help you identify what is needed.

What is the difference between direct and indirect discrimination?

Direct discrimination is being treated less favourably *because of* a protected characteristic (e.g., not being hired because you are a woman). Indirect discrimination is when a company has a policy that applies to everyone but puts you at a particular disadvantage because of your characteristic (e.g., a rule that all staff must work Saturdays, which disadvantages those of a certain religion).

How much compensation can I get for a discrimination claim?

There is no cap on compensation for discrimination. The amount awarded depends on the financial losses you have suffered (like lost wages) and an award for 'injury to feelings', which reflects the hurt and distress caused by the discrimination. We can provide an assessment of your potential claim value based on your specific case.
